Arparo Garrido is a contemporary visual artist from Valencia, Spain, known for her evocative use of texture, light, and Mediterranean color palettes. Born in 1984 in the El Carmen neighborhood, Garrido grew up surrounded by the rich artistic heritage of her city. Inspired by the interplay between tradition and modernity in Valencian culture, she pursued her formal education at the Facultat de Belles Arts de Sant Carles, where she specialized in mixed media and installation art.
Garrido’s work explores themes of memory, urban transformation, and the quiet tensions between nature and architecture. Her 2017 series “Somnis de Pedra” (Dreams of Stone), which reimagined fragments of ancient Valencian facades as living, breathing entities, earned her critical acclaim and a solo exhibition at the IVAM (Institut Valencià d'Art Modern). Since then, she has exhibited across Europe, including Berlin, Marseille, and Lisbon, gaining recognition for her innovative layering techniques and immersive, site-specific installations.
Beyond the gallery walls, Arparo is also deeply involved in community-based art projects, often working with young artists and local artisans to revitalize neglected urban spaces through collaborative murals and pop-up exhibitions. Her artistic philosophy centers on the belief that “art should be lived with, not just looked at.” Garrido continues to live and work in Valencia, where she maintains a studio near the Turia Gardens and remains a vital voice in the region’s contemporary art scene.
